How Big is Your Brave?
Posted on 03:00 by Unknown
I am a huge fan of inspirational music. It makes my world go 'round, it's been a great healing tool for me and provided a lot of food for thought. If you're a big fan of happy and inspirational music, (or you want to be!) you should totally check out the free ebook Soundtrack Your Life. It's full of my favorite happy tunes. And now I have a new one by Sara Bareilles! Brave.
When I first saw the video I got all weepy because not only do I love Random Acts of Dance but the video was so inclusive of all shapes, sizes, and ages and I absolutely LOVE seeing that in the media. It makes me want to throw my fist up with a "Hell yeah!" because that's what I want - diversity. So watch this video and even if the music isn't your thang, appreciate the diversity and the inclusion of everyday people. That's a step in the right direction.
Say what you wanna say and let the words fall out. Honestly I wanna see you be brave.
It makes me think about bravery and how much it encompasses and how different it is for everyone. For one person "Brave" might mean wearing a new shirt, or taking the trip around the world, or taking a step outside of your home, or believing that things will get better even when they suck. Or maybe it's sharing your deepest thoughts and feelings with the big wide blogosphere, even when it's hard and the doubts creep in and you wonder if you are really making a difference, and it's so much work, and you wonder if it's worth it at the end of the day.
It is "your" brave not someone else's. It's defined by your life, your comfort zone, and your limits. It's defined by you. Which is all kinds of beautiful.

If Only I Could Tell You...
Posted on 04:42 by Unknown
How much you deserve to be happy.
I wish I could put into words, words that would wrap around you and sink into your skin, how much you deserve it.
If only those words would seep into the cracks created by your sadness and your pain, filling you with a light that would radiate from you. One that you wouldn't shy away from because you believe you're all shadows.
If only I could tell you to stop wrapping your mistakes like a barrier around yourself that repels the kindness that the world gives back to you. For you are kind and good and all of the things that the world needs if only you'd see it, accept it, and be it.
If only I could tell you that happiness is there for the taking, given freely and waiting to be accepted if only you'd accept it. But you feel like it's something that you need to pay for and you're so far in debt already. Afraid that you'll take it and lose it and then where will you be? Owing more than you can handle with no relief in sight. It's a burden you bear that could be shared if only you'd voice it.
If only I could tell you that happiness is something that you get to keep forever if you want it. It becomes part of your essence if you dare to believe it.
If only I could tell you to be brave, to grasp it, and never let go.

Single Lady Loneliness and Aloneness
Posted on 01:19 by Unknown
Hello you beautiful person you.
I'm on vacation from the retail job right now and there's one thing that always crops up for me around this time: aloneness vs. loneliness.
You should know that I'm a bit of a hermit. I rarely go out and I'm very selective about who I hang out with. I am the definition of a homebody and I'm fine with that. I think it's why the Goddess Hestia and I mesh so well.
I get a good amount of social time and friend time at the retail job so when I go on vacation it's usually just me, myself, and I. That's when the battle of aloneness vs. loneliness comes into play.
Aloneness is when you are alone and you don't mind.
You laugh aloud while reading in bed and you yell at book characters and there's no one to mind. You dance to the kitchen, naked, while singing a made up song, and it's cool. You get the whole bed to yourself and you wake up in strange positions. You can order a pizza with just olives and mushrooms because it's your favorite and no one else's opinion matters. You can also watch as many episodes of Golden Girls while wearing your comfiest pjs and that's the norm. You can go to the bookstore for books and coffee and stay as long as you want. You can go to the movies and see whatever you want and eat popcorn and you don't have to share.
Aloneness is wonderful, it's soothing, it lets you be comfortable with who you are, in your own skin.
Loneliness is the evil twin, maybe not so evil, maybe just the sadder version.
Loneliness is when being alone doesn't feel good. You feel like something is missing, you feel a lack of connectedness with yourself or with others. Being alone feels like a burden and you have no one to share it with. The aloneness suddenly makes you feel isolated from everyone else. It's usually accompanied by Depression. Loneliness really sucks. There's really not much of a difference between aloneness and loneliness other than your state of mind and what you do with it.
In these times that I am alone a lot I become aware of loneliness lurking in the corners. I reach out and have a chat with someone, or ask my best friend to go out for lunch. Being alone is okay. Being not-alone is okay too. Oftentimes we allow ourselves to be lonely when we don't have to be. We can call our friends or family and ask them to come over or go out, and we can also see the blessing of being alone and learn to find the pleasure in it.
Do you tend to feel aloneness or loneliness? Is there a difference between the two for you?

Look up.
Posted on 04:00 by Unknown
It's no secret that I absolutely love historical romance novels. (If you do too, be my friend on goodreads!) Reading is my most used self-care, my way to unwind, relax, and have quiet Dominee-time.
The other day I was struck by something in one of my books. The hero is trying to get the heroine to believe in herself and to believe that she can have more than what she has. She's afraid though.
Then I realized that I feel that way sometimes. I'm afraid to be bigger than I am, I'm afraid that if I believe that I can be that person it's eventually going to collapse all around me.
I'm afraid to look up.
I'm afraid that if I look up I will see how very far I have to go. I'm afraid that I'll get discouraged at how high I have to climb. I'm afraid that I just won't have what it takes. I'm afraid of the fall if I get there. I want so much for myself and for my business and for my purpose that sometimes it's just so terrifying to want something so bad.
It's easier to look straight ahead, at what you have right now. It's easy to be grateful for what you have in the moment than to think or wish or hope or strive for what you might have. The truth is, you might not ever get it. Could you bounce back if you looked up? If you saw it within your grasp, if you knew it was so close, and then it slipped through your fingers? Could you afford not to try though?
I think that's where we have to start to be brave. Wanting something, to succeed, to be greater than we are, that is bravery. Allowing yourself to look up, that's courage.
We might not reach that goal. We might not ever become that person that we want to be, but we have to try. We have to look up.
Right now I'm being brave in putting myself out there, believing that Journey Through Journaling is going to be a success, believing that I am so meant to do what I'm doing. It's hard to look up but my eyes are on the stars right now.
I'm afraid to look up, but I'm looking up.

When you aren't enough.
Posted on 04:00 by Unknown
When you are feeling like you aren't enough I want to let you know something. It's something that I'm constantly learning over and over again. Each time the knowledge sinks into my soul I think it's something that I'll never forget, but I still forget. I need a reminder.
I never thought I would be where I am right now, but I'm here, and it's enough.
I never thought I was talkative enough to do what I do. I was always the shy, quite, bookworm growing up. I never imagined that people would listen to me, and I never imagined that I would want them to. I didn't think I had anything worth saying. I grew up feeling like I wasn't skinny enough or funny enough or interesting enough for anyone to want to be my friend or for anyone to care what I had to say. It wasn't true.
I had my first relationship and I still didn't think I was pretty enough, or sexy enough, or wanted enough, or loved enough. I started my business and I didn't think I was smart enough, or motivated enough, or a good enough writer. But I did it anyway and I am good enough for one reason.
I don't let the not-enough's keep me from trying. You shouldn't either. If there's something you want to do right now, do it. Believe in yourself. Believe in your worthiness. Believe in your inherent good-enough-ness because one day, maybe years from now, you are going to look back and you are going to see how worthy you truly were. How you were good enough in every way that matters.
You are, you are, you are, enough. I promise, and I want you to see that with my whole heart. Don't let anyone tell you that you aren't pretty enough and don't let anyone make you feel like you aren't smart enough or lovable enough. You don't have to change or be better, or fix anything about yourself to be worth total, complete, and unconditional love.
Whatever you are right now is good enough to love. It's worthy of love. You are brave enough to make your dreams come true and to do that thing that you want to do. You don't have to be more than you are. You don't have to be perfect. You don't have to be anything but you.
And that is enough.
You are enough.
I never thought I would be where I am right now, but I'm here, and it's enough.

I was enough and so are you.

I show up.

Trust your intuition, even when it hurts.
Posted on 06:33 by Unknown
True story ya know. In the end life will be so much easier. We always know what to do, the knowledge, the wisdom, it's there, lurking inside of us. The hard part, the part that hangs us up, is when our intuition tells us what we don't really want to do. When it tells us things that will hurt, that will be difficult, we have to listen anyway.
Always listen.
Lots of love to you.

Sacred Journey: May 18th
Posted on 05:00 by Unknown
Good morning my blossoms.
Last week I realized that this is my heart-work. Blessing Manifesting is not just a place for me to talk about my life. It is a place for us to share with each other. You and me. Our tribe, our family. When you get down to it, we're all in this together.
Today I create this sacred space, where you can share with me. Share with me what you are working on, physically, mentally, emotionally, or spiritually.
If you want to walk with me in silence, that's okay too. I know you are here with me, and I am there with you too. A word, a sentence, your life story, it's all okay, and it is all welcomed here, you can also post completely anonymously in the comments.

I also want to share more personal thoughts with you here, each Friday. I'm not perfect, I know this, and I'm sure you know this too, but I want you to witness those things, my wisdom and my flaws. My thoughts and imperfections. I don't want to just reflect on lessons of the past, but wisdom I am learning at this moment.
Gentle sharing, with no judgement. Just lots of hugs and hand holding.

Something that I've been mulling over sharing is about my biological father. I've mentioned it a few times in posts but never spoken out right about it because it's something that is still incredibly close to my heart and I feel shame about talking about it because I never felt comfortable enough to talk about it.
I'm biracial. My mother is white and my father is black. By the time I was born my mother had already married someone else who was also white. I then had two siblings who were white. At some point when I was six or seven, my mother told me that my father wasn't my biological father. I don't remember her telling me, but I always knew that I didn't fit in. People would ask me why I was a different color. I remember telling other children on the playground that I had got very sunburned one summer and I had a permanent tan. I always felt ashamed by the fact that I was different. I felt ashamed that I had never even met my biological father.
People would always ask me if I was adopted or if I was a step child, and this reinforced my feeling that I didn't fit in.
If other people could see that I didn't fit in, then plainly I didn't.
My Mom and Dad got divorced and at one point I found out that he wasn't paying child support for me, even though his name was on my birth certificate. I began to feel so guilty for any money that my struggling single mom spent on me.
I have always struggled with feeling like I wasn't supposed to be me and that I was an inconvenience being who I was. I discovered later in life that my Dad didn't know that I wasn't his child until a few years after I was born. Was that a factor in their divorce? I don't know. I always felt like my grandparents on his side resented me. And why shouldn't they? My mother had "trapped" their son into marriage. I felt like his whole family hated me.
I also wondered about my bio-dad. Why he never wanted visitation with me. I resented him as well. My mother had got pregnant with me when she was 19 and I found out my bio-dad had been 40 at the time. So much older, that worried me. Had he taken advantage of her? Hurt her? I still don't know. I've worked up the courage a handful of times to ask my mom about him, but those are always the hardest conversations that I've ever had. She always says a few nice things about him. That I was meant to happen.
Two years ago I wrote my bio-dad a letter for the last time. I told myself that if he didn't respond then I would let it go forever. Six months later I got a Christmas Card and a photograph of him.
I had waited 25 years to see his face and when I finally did, something clicked inside of me and I knew that the journey was over.
It was too late for me to forge a bond, to get back 25 years of not knowing him. He's almost 70 years old now. I know that I might not be able to change my mind in ten years, or twenty years, and I feel at peace with that decision.
I still struggle with how I felt growing up, and there's still a lot of things that I haven't dealt with. However, it has made me into the person I am today and I know that I will find those paths to healing when I need to find them. One step at a time.
Today I ask you to walk with me for a little bit, to tell me about what's on your mind and in your heart.

Sacred Path + Notes of Love
Posted on 03:00 by Unknown
Good morning my darlings.
So I've been thinkthinkthinking about our direction, mine and yours, and our path together, and then a beautiful idea came to me.
A sharing of our paths.
Joining, intertwining, walking side-by-side, hand-in-hand. I share with you and I cherish those moments, but what lights me up, what really makes it all worth it, are the moments when you share with me too.
Today I create this sacred space, where you can share with me. Share with me what you are working on, physically, mentally, emotionally, or spiritually. Share with me the things that you are in love with. Share with me the things you're figuring out, wishing for, and hope to be. I would love that.

My thoughts and imperfections. I don't want to just reflect on lessons of the past, but wisdom I am learning at this moment.
Right now I feel this urge to get to a point I'm not ready to be at. I want to get from Point A, which is realization, to Point C which is the final goal, and bypass point B - doing all of the work. Sometimes it's like a spiral and you get to Point C only to realize you have to start all over. I guess life is like that.
There's someone at my job that I really dislike. Everything about them bothers me and I find myself getting annoyed when one of my friends wants to spend time with this person. I'm trying to dig into the intricacies of why, so that I can deal with those feelings. There's something I read, that when you see traits in others that you dislike it is a reflection of what you dislike about yourself. Maybe there are hints of truth to that.
I think in the quiet, still, dark, corners inside of me I fear being replaced. Which calls my own feelings of self-worth into question. I should never fear that, because I am "me" and me is amazing and irreplaceable... so if that's not it... then I must not have trust in my relationships... Which brings more questions...
Explore all options and you'll find a moment of clarity, an answer, at some point. :)
I was reading this post this morning and I especially loved this one part. It gave me that little twitch inside that said "Think on this more."
I don't know if I believe attachment and love cannot coexist and I don't think I can ever come from a place of pure detachment (can any of us?). I can blame it on my fiery, passionate, all-in, Leo nature, or I can just acknowledge that I know myself well enough to know how impossible that feels to me.
Loosening my grasp, letting go some, feeling things shift and widen, maybe that I can do.
I am in love with this song called Yet by Switchfoot. It's funny because it strangely enough makes me think of Blessing Manifesting and the passion that I have for the work that I do. "If it doesn't break your heart it isn't love. If it doesn't break your heart it's not enough. It's when you're breaking down with your insides coming out, that's when you find out what your heart is made of." It makes me think about how I feel when I pour out words here. So many times I have sat here with tears falling as a type, that's just how I am. So many times I've read my work months later and be moved to tears because those words came out of me and are mine. It breaks my heart sometimes, but in a good way, that I have done what I do and I have been what I am.
Today I ask you to walk with me for a little bit, to tell me about what's on your mind and in your heart.
If you want to walk with me in silence, that's okay too. I know you are here with me, and I am there with you too. A word, a sentence, your life story, it's all okay, and it is all welcomed here, you can also post completely anonymously in the comments.

The moment you detach yourself from all things, (and that doesn’t mean you give up your love for them – because love and attachment have nothing to do with one another, attachment comes from a place of fear, while love… well, real love is pure, kind, and self less, where there is love there can’t be fear, and because of that, attachment and love cannot coexist) you become so peaceful, so tolerant, so kind, and so serene.
I don't know if I believe attachment and love cannot coexist and I don't think I can ever come from a place of pure detachment (can any of us?).

Why I Love My Net-Kin
Posted on 04:00 by Unknown
Psssst! Mornin' my awesome, beautiful, gorgeous, one.
I need to say thank you, to YOU.
You see, I am amazed by you. I am amazed by who you are, by what you do every day. By your journey, your triumphs, your sorrows.
I am grateful that I get to connect with you through comments, facebook, twitter, email, forums, and blogs. The internet is so beautifully amazing and so are the people that I know.
I love getting to talk to you, to read your blogs, to see your updates on Facebook, and your tweets on twitter. I love getting to know you.
It's damn magical.
I had so many people fill out my survey last month and I was just so amazed and incredibly touched by how lovely your responses were. I know that I have a wonderful tribe, but as I put the survey out into the world I figured I would get a troll-y response or two, maybe a mean criticism, or a bit of negative feedback. I braced myself for it. I told myself that it would help me grow, that I needed to be able to hear and absorb the negatives. The funny thing is, there weren't any. Not one person out of the many that took the survey, said one thing that could be construed as negative or hurtful. (Accepting the negative wasn't a lesson I had to learn that day, and I am okay with that!)
What I did learn was that I need to keep doing what I am doing. All I need to do is "show up" and the work does what it is supposed to. It was a beautiful, affirming, moment for me. I am so grateful for everyone's feedback and for the fact that you allow me into your life and into your day the way that you do.
So allow me to reiterate. You are awesome. You are amazing. Thank you.
I love you,
