Bonks you on da head: Your Story Matters

Posted on 04:00 by Unknown
This is something that I have said again, and again, your story matters. I'm not just saying it for you, but for me as well. I sometimes forget how powerful my truth is.

I think we all go through periods of self doubt, where we wonder if we are really making a difference by telling our stories. I feel that way at least once every few weeks, and then I rediscover why it is that I do what I do and why you should do it too.

Your story lets others know that they are not alone.

Your story can heal.

A few weeks ago someone came to me with a personal problem. Something that I went through myself. As they spoke, I realized that most people would pass judgement on what this person was going though but I found myself able to have a deep understanding of the issue and compassion for the person and how they were feeling. I was able to offer advice and an understanding ear, and I realized what a gift that was.

If I didn't tell my story then no one would know it.

There are some things about me that could be coined 'shameful' and yet I am open about them. I have talked about my affair with a married man, my verbally abusive past, my deep depression, my abandonment issues, my body image struggles, and my decision not to have children. All of those things are things that someone out there can relate to.

There have also been things that I haven't found the voice to talk about, my struggles with self-injury, my complicated relationship with my mother and step-father, my choice to be celibate, my coming-out as bisexual, all of these stories need to be told as well, but it's a difficult process to make peace with them enough for them to do good in the world.

The things that you are ashamed about, are the things that other people have been ashamed about, are still ashamed about, and might always be ashamed about. You, me, us, we give them a chance to see that something good can come out of those situations because we are the good that comes from those situations.

So just in case you needed a reminder.

Tell your story.

It matters.

Who I Want To Be

Posted on 03:00 by Unknown
I've been doing some thinking, as is my Autumn habit. It's a time for me to hunker down and figure stuff out. Look back on the year and figure out what I liked and what I didn't.

As the leaves change, I try to figure out what I want to change about myself.

I once had a friend tell me that if I really loved myself then I wouldn't feel the need to change. That thought tripped me up for a little bit. Was she right? Was all of my efforts at self improvement just a way to cover-up some secret self-loathing and not-good-enough feelings?

In the end I thought about it and I realized that I want to grow. I want to learn. I want to change. Transform. Evolve. It's like being a child. Children are wonderful as they are, but they can't stay that way forever. They've got to learn new things, new skills, new abilities. It's the same with me. There's always something to change, to do better at, but I'm still awesome right now.

Just because I want to change, doesn't mean I don't love myself now.

It took awhile for me to realize that change doesn't equal having to fix something. It's transformation. It's upgrading. I think I'm going to go around saying that "Self-improvement? I'm self-upgrading here. I'm just downloading a new app for anger-management." Let's totally start a movement with that.

The other day I was thinking about how I want to change and improve, what things I'm not entirely happy about, and I decided to write it down. (I have mentioned my worksheet addiction haven't I?)  So I made one! Who I Am Now vs Who I Want To Be maybe it will be useful for you too. I tried to keep it positive and honest. Like I said, there are a lot of things about me right now that I love. So I wrote them down, alongside the things I don't. It's all in your perspective!

That's where I'm at now, it feels like a good place, and I am so excited about what is to come, both from me and Blessing Manifesting.

Here's to hope, love, and all the good stuff!

I Have A Grateful Heart

Posted on 02:00 by Unknown
Right here, right now, I am on my one day off from work and tomorrow night (Black Friday) I have to work an eleven hour shift. It's been crazy, but I am happy.

I am also grateful.

I am grateful that I have a job. I am grateful that I have a home that I love to go home to at the end of the day. I love that it gives me the financial freedom to sit here and do this and not worry about how to pay the bills. Even on the crazy days I am so immensely grateful.

I have a grateful heart.

I am grateful for my wonderful friends and my heart-soul family. The ones that effortlessly glide into my life and the ones that wiggle their way into my reluctant heart. I am grateful for the massive love I feel from them, the kind of love that smooths away the childhood wounds. I am grateful for the guys that take my friendship in stride, and don't ask all that much of me. I am grateful for the girls that put up with my fumbling attempts at being a good friend. I'm also grateful for you (doubly so) because you allow me an outlet for the things that are in my heart. I am grateful for those that are my comfort zone and those that try to push me out of it.

I am grateful for the moments that make me feel alive, blood-rushing, heart-thumping, the moments that bring life into intense focus. I am grateful for the quiet, lazy, moments that allow me the time to steep and soak in my thoughts. I am grateful for the work that I do in this space. I am grateful that I have managed to turn my life into a tool to help others.

I think that is the thing that I am most thankful for.

What are you grateful for today?

You Have Permission to Slow Down

Posted on 10:22 by Unknown
How are you feeling?

I mean really?

In your bones, in your head, in that (hopefully) happy heart of yours?

Deep breaths and think about it.

How are you feeling?

Thanksgiving is right around the corner and to be honest I'm really not feeling it. If you are feeling the same way, I have a little bit of advice for you. Even if you aren't feeling that way, I have some advice for you, because I am in an advice-giving mood.

Do what you can do. Slow down if you need to slow down.

Are you ready to make a big Thanksgiving meal? Looking forward to dealing with the family? Have you started your Christmas shopping yet? How's your budget for this month? What about next month? Greeting cards picked out and ready to send? Got your tree yet? Decorations? Invitations for that holiday party sent out? Ready to wrap presents? Have you started thinking about your New Year's resolutions yet?

This time of the year is pretty crazy.

Let me be perfectly honest here, I'm not a big holiday celebrate-er. Due to numerous reasons, which I am sure to talk about at some point, I don't participate in any family functions. I spend the holidays all by my lonesome (which I'm mostly okay with, most of the time, I do have my moments). I've tried spending it with friends and that just makes me feel like an outsider, and I've also tried to do something big by myself and that just made me feel disappointed.

The last few years I've done what I can do.

Which usually involves letting Thanksgiving and Christmas be normal days. I can be thankful whenever I want, and giving gifts? I give them all year round to the people that I really love. Sometimes I put up a tree, and sometimes I don't. Most of my actual gifts at this time of the year are gift cards, greeting cards are facebook messages, and my holiday dinners are sandwiches or oven-baked pizza.

Why are my holidays to simplified and minimalistic?

Because that's what nourishes me, or rather, that's what I can do before it starts to get stressful and overwhelming. The holidays (despite all of those pesky marketing ploys) is not about pleasing other people.

It's about being happy, and being thankful, and celebrating the magic of life and the people you love.

That doesn't come with a price tag and a bag of stress and overwhelm.

I wish we'd all remember that a little bit more. So this year, do what you can do. Don't turn yourself into a stressed out ball of gunk just to live up to some ideal family portrait. A big turkey dinner with all the fixin's and polished silverware at a nicely table-clothed table, would be wonderful, but there's nothing wrong with sitting in the living room eating pizza out of a box, talking, laughing, and watching movies with the family. Your kids might not look back and see traditional, but they'll probably see a happy mom and dad.

Do what fills you up.

If it fills you up to bring out the nice linen and wake up at the crack of dawn to start the turkey (one of my favorite childhood memories) and you take joy and satisfaction from feeding everyone your delicious food, then do it and enjoy every single moment of it!

Do what fills you up.

This week finds me working six days straight, including Thanksgiving and the crazy sales starting at five in the morning the day after, and you know what? I'm okay with it because I am slowing down. I am napping. I am vegging. I am savoring all of the slow quiet moments of life. I am letting go of needing to spend my days filling up other people's cups. I am filling up my own (and it feels good).

I am doing what I can.

This is me, wishing you, a Happy Thanksgiving! (I might not pop in again until the Thanksgiving Craziness, but know this: I loooooooove you!)

The Magic of Eucalyptus

Posted on 04:00 by Unknown
Cold weather is a great time for aromatherapy. In fact, if you've ever been sick, had sore muscles, or sprained anything, then chances are you've probably had a run in with Eucalyptus.

Eucalyptus trees are native to Australia and Tasmania, but they are now found in a lot of subtropical regions. They are one of the tallest and fastest growing trees but aren't often put in gardens because they tend to take over. The essential oil is derived from the eucalyptus' long leaves.

Eucalyptus is one of my favorite wintertimes oils because it has a lot of great properties.

Dry Winter air makes colds much easier to catch by drying out your sinuses which causes them to crack and creates a great environment for colds to enter your body. If you are easily  susceptible to colds at this time, then that might be a factor. You will find that a lot of humidifiers utilize eucalyptus because it greatly benefits the nasal passages.

If you are familiar with Vick's Vapor Rub then you're probably very familiar with the smell of it. Eucalyptus is great for clearing your nasal passages and soothing coughs. It has a great minty smell! Taking a bath with a few drops of eucalyptus oil or putting it into a diffuser can help you breathe so much easier when you are congested from a cold!

It can also relieve headaches and is good for purification and clear headedness.

Have you ever used eucalyptus? Do you find that it's helpful?

Self Soothing

Posted on 06:24 by Unknown
You've probably heard of self-soothing in relation to babies. The concept is that babies need to learn how to relax on their own enough to fall asleep without being held or rocked. Which usually involves a lot of crying on their part.

Regardless of which side you fall into on that debate, self-soothing is something that all adults need to learn. When you are having those upset and anxious moments, you need to know how to calm yourself down. You'd be surprised at how many people just don't know how to do this in a constructive way. They get overwhelmed with negative emotions and they turn to destructive ways to cope, like lashing out, drugs and alcohol, or deep depression.

You need to discover how to self-soothe.

When you are getting overwhelmed the easiest way to figure out which way to self-soothe is best for you is to go through the five senses.

Touch

This is the one that actually works best for me. Touch is a great way to immediately ground yourself and bring you back into the present, into the moment. What works best for me is lovingly touching my cheek, ya know, caressing, it works every time to settle me down. So does soothingly running my fingers through my hair. You can also use other kinds of touch therapy like touching soft things like blankets or petting a furry animal. Wrapping yourself in a warm blanket is also uber helpful!

Smell

Now I'm a huge fan of aromatherapy, so if you have any interest in that kind of thing you should start experimenting with lavender and chamomile, two of my favorite calming scents. Put them in a diffuser or rub the oil on your chest. Make yourself a cup of tea and take a deep whiff of the steam. Run yourself a bubble bath with yummy smelly bath stuffs. Go outside and enjoy the many earthy scents of nature.

Sight

Surround yourself with things that please you. Choose soothing colors like blues, greens, and purples, or any other colors that give you that peaceful vibe. Dim the lights or surround yourself with a few candles. Go to a garden or to the woods, or surround yourself with things that are nice to look at. Read a book or watch a good movie.

Taste

Eat something good or good for you. Eat slowly and savor every moment. Make it an experience instead of eating your feelings. Drink something special, hot cocoa, tea, sparkling cider, anything that's a little out of the every day but makes you happy.

Hearing

Listen to music, preferably the calming soothing kind instead of the angry rage-y kind. Nature sounds are also a great addition when you need to calm down, especially if you can't make your way to a beach or a rainforest or a rainy day. Silence can also be a great soother.

In what ways do you self-soothe? What is your absolute favorite?

Wait... I'm a control freak?

Posted on 04:00 by Unknown
If you would've told me a few days ago that I was a control freak I would've looked at you with a raised eyebrow like you were a nutter.

After all, if you are a control freak, well you must be ambitious, and impeccably dressed, and you must have your shit together. On the other hand, I tend to be pretty disorganized, I'm really no good at telling other people what to do, and I don't really mind being told what to do and following rules.

Fact is: I'm still a control freak.

I like being in the Driver's Seat as far as where I'm going and how I am going to get there. I like knowing how things are going to turn out. I like it when people act and do as I would expect them to. I've had a lot of up and downs lately and I realized my big hang up, the thing that was making all of the sucky stuff suck more.

My need to control the outcome of everything.

I have a real problem with laying back and letting things happen. I'll use my business as an example, it would've been nice if I created my business, and the right people found it by fate and happenstance, and it grew and blossomed beautifully with little effort from me. Like a wildflower in a field that just needs the earth, sunshine, and water, and to be left alone. In reality it's like an Orchid, I'm constantly adjusting the light, the air circulation, the amount of shade, the temperature, the humidity, adding fertilizer, potting and repotting... it's a lot of work and I love being in control of whether it fails or thrives.

In my business, that attitude works great, in my personal life, not so much.

The thing about life is that it usually rejects a tight grip. I mean, try to plan out the next few weeks to the tiniest detail and see how well it really works for you. Chances are, a lot of things will not end up going your way. At one point on my journey I learned how important and beneficial it is to let go of getting attached to the outcome of situations. Let them come and let them go and just accept it for what it is.

I need to re-learn that.

I need to stop expecting everything to go a certain way because that's what I want. I'm setting myself up for disappointment, especially when it involves having expectations of other people. So here's what I am going to do and I am going to ask you to do it with me.

Accept the moment for what it is

Don't focus so much on what has happened or what will happen, allow yourself to be in the moment, be fully present, and appreciate what you have in the moment. This moment right now is really all you've got anyway.

Do you find it hard to let go of your attachment to outcomes? Are you good at just going with the flow?

Sometimes you gotta let go of logic

Posted on 04:00 by Unknown
Let go of logic and trust your feelings

Oh did I need to hear this message today. While I am a fan of learning from my mistakes (I'm sure you already knew that) I am also a fan of learning from other people's mistakes. After all, that's logical. However, sometimes you just want to live through it, make your own mistakes, and forge your own path, no matter who has come before you and what fate has befallen them.

That is what I needed to realize today.

Today's card comes from the Angels, Gods, and Goddesses deck by Toni Carmine Salerno. Goddess of the Sacred Path.

This is a time to let go of what you think is logical and trust your feelings. What is it that you would truly love to do or experience at this point in your life? Imagine if you could do anything what would it be? The answer dwells in your heart, not in your mind.

This is because your heart holds your true essence, it is the gateway to your soul whereas the mind dwells more within fears which often prevent us from fulfilling our true potential.

Trust your feelings and align yourself with your dreams. Begin to explore all it is that you would truly love to be. Discover what you would like to have and do in this life.

Travel honestly and lovingly and you will be guided to your sacred path.

p.s. If you are interested in Oracle Cards you should check out my readings that will be tailored specifically to you and your situation!

What I Wish To Change

Posted on 22:41 by Unknown
Happy Wishcasting Wednesday! For those of you with blogs, come and join the tribe! Every Wednesday we give our words to a wish prompted by Jamie Ridler. It's a wonderful way to connect with other bloggers and push your dreams to manifesting! Today's wish is:

What change do you wish for?

I thought about this for a few minutes and then I had a wonderful "Ah-ha! Wisewoman alert." Gotta love those flashes of brilliance.

The change I wish for is the kind that is inevitable.

I highly dislike change, I rarely seek it out. I prefer to stay in my cozy little comfort zone, and as much as I like it there, I rarely get the opportunity to become complacent, and when I do, it just sets me up for more turbulence when the change does come.

"Change is inevitable. Growth is optional." - John Maxwell

If change wasn't inevitable, then I might not be pushed to grow, because that's what it is. It's a gentle (and sometimes not) nudge from the universe asking me to react. Change is the momentum that moves me on this path because without it I'd sit there still and motionless. I am open to change, but I wish to react with wisdom to it.

What change do you wish for?

31 Days of Self Love

Posted on 08:24 by Unknown
Hey there lovely you! So the past few weeks have been full of downs and ups and then downs again. This week has kicked my little tushy.

Aaaaaaanyway, there's something that I have been excited about, and that's my newest e-book (which is totally free and shall remain so forever and ever and ever) 31 Days of Self Love! (If you already subscribe to the newsletter you should've gotten the link in the last issue of the Newsletter that went out on November 1st called "31 Days of Self Love + Epic November")

I dunno about you, but November is the beginning of a rather stressful period for me. Working in retail at the largest retailer in the U.S. kinda makes the holidays all about stress, a very heavy workload, and sore muscles. (No fun at all!) Maybe it's stressful for you too! This e-book, 31 Days of Self Love was created to inspire you to add Self Love and Self Care to your life every single day, 31 days and onward of course!

Why? Because it's awesome.

Think about all of the little things that you can do for yourself, like taking the time to eat a nourishing breakfast, or watch the sunrise, or read a really good book. All of these things, small as they are, can create a ripple effect that can reduce stress, ease depression, and generally improve the awesome of your life. How would you feel if someone told you that you couldn't do those things for yourself? Don't be that person! Don't deprive yourself of soul-nourishment, heart-nourishment, or body-nourishment, just because you don't have the time or you don't feel worthy.

You are worthy!

There's also big things, like saying "no" and setting boundaries. If spending the holidays with your family fills you with dread, don't do it out of some twisted obligation to them, there are obligations you have towards yourself that must be honored as well.

That's the secret to all acts of Self Love: Choosing You. Honoring You.

And this wee e-book is a good first step! So get it, share it, love it, do it! I would be honored (and appreciative) if you could share this with your friends, fans, and family. Encouraging others to love themselves is something that can literally change someone's life! That is my gift to you.

Sending you all sorts of loves and huggin's (I need them after the week I've had!)

New Beginning and Letting Go

Posted on 03:56 by Unknown
So for all of you that keep up with Pagan and Wiccan Traditions, yesterday was Samhain which is kind like our New Year. It is the day where we honor death, as the day marks the end of the Harvest Season. It is the beginning of the Dark part of the year. It is time for us to go deeper within ourselves, walk with our shadow-self, and hibernate. It's when we decide what we want to blossom into come Springtime.

As I'm sure you know, 'cause you love me (I love you too), this last week kinda sucked. It didn't suck in any spectacular way, it was just the little things that kept getting to me, and getting to me, and getting to me. Try as hard as I might, I just couldn't shake it off. After I vented in that blog post (thank you by the way) I did feel quite a bit better. The power of speaking your truth.

It's lovely even when it's ugly.

Yesterday in the wee hours of morning, at about five I was doing my usual avoidance of anything that required brain matter (I am a night-owl even on my days off due to working overnights), when it full on hit me that it was Samhain. Which is both a time of endings and beginnings. I wanted to end the grumpiness and begin again, so I did. I thought about the little things, that I was still holding on to, and I let them go.

I started by cleaning my physical space.

Now I don't know about you, but when I'm not in a happy mood I tend to veer towards not happy music. I resisted the urge to do that and I made a playlist of Snatam Kaur and Krishna Das (complete blissgasm). I lit a few candles and incense and cracked a window for some fresh air. Ohmygoodness, after about ten minutes of cleaning the tension in my shoulders and neck began to loosen, my mood began to brighten, and I felt good. I dunno about you but when I get in a funk my housekeeping skill fall to the wayside. What a difference a clean living space makes.

I'm tellin' ya, it's magic.

Right now I've got a heating pad on my sore shoulders (boy was I tense!) but other than that, I feel like I've stepped into this part of the year with a good attitude and some knew wisdom, as well as a smile.

How are you journeying into this dark time of the year?
